Cooking and Nutrition - Teresa Pangan: registered dietitian nutritionist, will delve into the significance of color in our diets and its implications for cancer survivorship, emphasizing the importance of incorporating a vibrant array of fruits and vegetables into our meals. Then, she will lead you through the creation of a nutritious and flavorful Quinoa and Roasted Sweet Potato Jar Salad, highlighting the benefits of incorporating nutrient-dense ingredients like quinoa and sweet potatoes into our diets. As we assemble our jar salads, she'll share practical tips for building balanced and satisfying meals. Additionally, we'll engage in a mindful eating exercise with a delightful chia fruit pudding, encouraging you to savor each bite and cultivate a deeper appreciation for the nourishment food provides. You'll leave with newfound knowledge, inspiration, and your very own jar salad and mindful eating practices to continue your journey towards optimal health and wellness
Yoga - Bobbi Kelley: Chair or mat yoga - please bring a mat if you have one.
Gilda's Club - Kelsey Allen: Break Up with Stress. As a cancer survivor, you've conquered a major challenge. LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA is a complimentary program tailored to fit the specific needs of adult cancer survivors who would like to improve the quality of their lives before, during, and after treatment. This 12-week program meets twice per week with certified Exercise Specialists and Personal Trainers who have undergone specialized training in the elements of cancer, rehabilitative exercise and supportive cancer care.
Sr. Bobbi Bussan -
Let’s talk about some practical ways we can practice self-compassion as we live with cancer. Sr. Bobbi is a survivor since 2005 and is often told that she has an amazing attitude while living with cancer and her 4 reoccurrences. She will share some practical ways that have helped her remain positive and may be helpful to you. The session will include reflective activities, sharing and ‘take home’ practices that strengthen us on our cancer journey.
The retreat is free of charge - just register and come enjoy a relaxing, invigorating day! A healthy lunch will be served.
On the first Sunday in June each year, on June 2 this year, the nonprofit National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation rallies its forces and resources to promote National Cancer Survivors Day in the U.S. and worldwide, as it has done since 1988. The NCSD Foundation bills the holiday as a “celebration of life” where survivors — described as anyone who has a history of the disease, from the point of diagnosis through the remainder of life — gather with friends, families, and supporters to raise awareness, spread information, provide services, and honor other survivors, all to show that life after a cancer diagnosis can be full and fruitful.
