On Tuesday, August 5, 2014 the DeWitt Police Department will join other Iowa communities and 10,000 communities nationwide in participating in the 31th Annual NATIONAL NIGHT OUT- America's Night Out Against Crime. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is a crime prevention event to promote police-community partnerships, safety, and neighborhood unity.  Last year over 34 million people participated in NATIONAL NIGHT OUT events in all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian Cities and on military bases around the world.   This will be DeWitt's 11th Year to host a National Night Out event. NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime program efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send the message to criminals that DeWitt neighborhoods are on watch for suspicious or illegal activity. The DeWitt Police Department will again promote NATIONAL NIGHT OUT by hosting a large block party at Lincoln Park (downtown) on Tuesday, August 5th.  Activities will begin at 6:00 p.m. and go until 8:00 p.m. DEWITT NATIONAL NIGHT OUT Block Party events will include Face Painter, Dunk a Police Officer for a Buck, The Players DJ Service, Ronald McDonald, Chick-Fil-A Cow, Inflatable Obstacle Course , Fire Department Smoke House, Displays of Law Enforcement Vehicles, Pony Rides, Barrel Rides, Prizes, Balloon Artist, FREE Food, and other great activities.  This is also a chance to meet and talk with local law enforcement officers and officials. Please come out to our NATIONAL NIGHT OUT Block Party for an exciting evening. Together through police-community partnership, we can deter criminals.  All residents whether attending the block party or not, are encouraged to turn their porch lights on and get better acquainted with their neighbors and show neighborhood unity against crime.
