DEWITT, IA– The Iowa Association of School Boards and Central DeWitt Community School District urge Iowans passionate about education to consider running in the November 4, 2025, school board election. Public schools need strong leadership and governance to ensure a bright future for all children and communities across the state.

School board members play a significant role in their communities, and they must possess strong leadership, vision, and dedication. They are charged with accountability for student learning, determining educational goals, setting policy, overseeing school finances, and more. 

School board service is a meaningful way to support not only students and staff but also the future success of Central DeWitt. Although board members serve four-year terms without pay, most who serve say it is one of the most fulfilling ways to give back to their community.

“Free public education, available for all of the young people of our community, is a noble tradition of our state and probably the most important thing local government can provide,” said CDCSD Board Member Roger Hill. “Knowing, seeing, and being a part of what is going on with our faculty, staff, students, and community is a rewarding privilege. Young people are the future. A school director can have influence on the direction of our district, representing students, faculty, community, and taxpayers.”

CDCSD has two seats up for election on November 4. Nominations for open seats can be filed between August 25 and September 18.  School board candidates must obtain 50 signatures to be eligible. Nomination papers are available from the county auditor’s office, the Secretary of State’s website (https://sos.iowa.gov/school-elections), or from Board Secretary Sarah Johnston at:
