Communications Manager

Role Summary

This position is responsible for development, oversight, and communications for all aspects of communication for First Congregational United Church of Christ (DeWitt, IA). 

Key Responsibilities

Print Communications

  • With the pastor, design, create, and prepare the worship bulletin for each worship service (all Sunday services, holiday services, funerals, weddings, etc.).

  • Design and create the quarterly newsletter of First Congregational, The Carillon Notes. This includes writing articles, taking event photographs, and laying out and printing the issues. With volunteers, prepare and mail the newsletters.

  • Design and create the annual report each year.

  • Create and prepare other materials as needed.

Digital Communications and Social Media

  • With the pastor, design and create slides for each worship service.

  • With volunteers, manage display of slides during worship, as well as recording and livestreaming of worship.

  • Manage the website and social media channels of First Congregational: develop content strategies, create and post content, build followings, etc.

  • Write and send the weekly email newsletter, and other mass emails as needed.

Media Relations

  • Create positive relationships with local and regional media outlets.

  • Secure and respond to media attention.

Administrivia

  • Cover the church phone during business hours when needed (e.g. when the pastor is on vacation).

Qualifications

Excellent written and oral communications skills.

Proven ability to manage projects from beginning to end.

Organized and able to manage multiple projects at once.

Familiarity with Affinity Suite, Proclaim, Final Cut Pro, or similar software.

Familiarity with best practices for print and digital media, including website accessibility, SEO, and social media marketing.

Schedule

Variable, but about ten hours per week.

Pay Information

$15 per hour.
